Here are a few glasses I’ve collected over the past year:
If you ever want to give me something nice, consider enamel juice glasses featuring beloved illustrated characters. (I don’t have any from the McDonald’s archive yet. My birthday is in May.)
Something Doraemon and Anpan-man have in common is that anko (sweetened red bean paste) is central to their being.
Anpanman is a hero whose head is an anpan (soft bun with anko inside.) Takahashi Yanase, the creator of Anpanman, faced starvation countless times during WWII. He dreamed about eating anpan and, presumably once he was no longer hungry, he created Anpanman (source: Wiki).
Anpanman’s anpan head has healing powers: when those terrorized by Baikinman (Bacteria-man) and his crew take a bite, they are healed. But Anpanman grows weak until Uncle Jam bakes him a new head.
Anko, the cat, named after the filling that makes Anpanman so powerful, has never really faced starvation.
Doraemon, a robot cat from the future, has a 4D pouch out of which he pulls hyper-specific gadgets like a Dictator Switch or Fast and Slow Pills. He is so famous.
He also famously loves dorayaki, which is anko sandwiched between two small pancakes. He even has his own brand.
I once ate three of these in one sitting. I felt so terrible after. It was the first time I checked the sugar content in what I was eating.
I felt like crap! I don’t think Anpanman could’ve helped.
